Fairfield Police announced today they arrested a Redding resident, Harry E. Metz, 55 of Gallows Hill Road, for inappropriately touching a 14-year old girl at Fairfield’s Fourth of July fireworks show on Saturday, July 2.

According to a press release, during the fireworks, Metz “approached the [14-year old] female in the parking lot and attempted to engage the juvenile in conversation, at which time he identified himself as ‘Hank.’

“During the brief encounter, the subject touched the juvenile in an inappropriate manner, and then left the parking lot. A second juvenile was able to take a photograph of the suspect.”

Fairfield police published the photograph taken of the suspect, and spread it in media sources throughout the state. Metz was identified as a suspect through these steps, police said, and he turned himself in to Fairfield Police on Monday, Aug. 8.

He was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.

He was given a court date of August 17, and was released on a written promise to appear.
